Ingredients
Scale
- 2 cups of all-purpose flour
- 1 tablespoon of baking powder
- 1 teaspoon of salt
- 1/2 cup of unsalted butter, cold and cubed
- 3/4 cup of buttermilk
- Additional melted butter for pouring
- Optional toppings: honey, jam, or cream cheese
Instructions
- In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt.
- Using a pastry cutter or a fork, cut the cold butter into the dry ingredients until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
- Slowly pour in the buttermilk and stir gently until just combined. Do not overmix.
- Turn the dough onto a floured surface and knead lightly a few times.
- Pat the dough into a 1-inch thick rectangle. Using a biscuit cutter or a floured glass, cut into round biscuits.
- Place the biscuits onto a greased baking sheet, spacing evenly.
- Pour melted butter generously over each biscuit to create the butter swim effect.
- Bake in a preheated oven at 425°F (220°C) for 12-15 minutes until golden brown.
Notes
- Use cold butter for the best flaky layers.
- Handle the dough gently to keep it light and airy.
- Pour the melted butter evenly over the biscuits for uniform butter absorption.
- Serve immediately for the best texture and flavor.
