- 1 lb ground beef or turkey
- 1 small onion, chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 can cream of mushroom soup (or cream of chicken for variation)
- 1/2 cup sour cream
- 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
- 1 package frozen Tater Tots (about 32 oz)
- Salt and pepper to taste
- Optional: chopped green onions, bacon bits, or diced peppers for extra flavor
Instructions
- In a large skillet, cook the ground beef or turkey over medium heat until browned. Add chopped onions and minced garlic, cooking until softened. Season with salt and pepper. Drain excess fat if necessary.
- Transfer cooked meat into a mixing bowl. Stir in cream of mushroom soup, sour cream, and half of the shredded cheese. Mix thoroughly.
- Spread the meat mixture evenly in a greased baking dish. Top with a layer of frozen Tater Tots and sprinkle remaining cheese on top.
- Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Bake uncovered for 30-35 minutes until Tater Tots are golden brown and crispy. Broil for an additional 2-3 minutes if desired for extra crispness.
Notes
- Let the casserole cool before storing to prevent sogginess.
