Ingredients
Scale
- 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 teaspoon sugar
- 1 cup unsalted butter, chilled and cubed
- 4-5 tablespoons ice water
- 5-6 large apples (Granny Smith or Honeycrisp)
- 3/4 cup sugar
- 2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
- 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
- 1 tablespoon lemon juice
Instructions
- Mix flour, salt, and sugar in a large bowl. Cut in butter until mixture resembles coarse crumbs. Add ice water one tablespoon at a time until dough forms. Divide into two disks, chill for 30 minutes.
- Peel, core, and slice apples. Toss with lemon juice, sugar, cinnamon, and nutmeg.
- Preheat oven to 425°F (220°C). Roll one dough disk into a circle and fit into a pie dish. Fill with apple mixture.
- Roll out second dough disk and place over filling. Trim edges and crimp to seal. Cut slits if using a top crust.
- Bake for 45-50 minutes, until golden brown. Cool before serving.
Notes
- Use tart apples for best flavor balance.
- Chill the dough to prevent shrinkage during baking.
- Serve warm with vanilla ice cream or whipped cream.
